This tour highlights the most important Buddhist monasteries and temples of the country and opens the way to restoration of ruined monuments, of religious, social and artistic creations. Starting from the biggest Gandantegchilen khiid, the tour takes you to 8 major monasteries throughout the country and lets you experience the Mongolian Buddhist tradition, history, magnificent religious art and architectural construction. Day 1 Arrival in UB. More city tours and excursions: Gandan Monastery (Mongolia's most important temple of Lamaism), Natural History Museum (outstanding collection of dinosaur bones from Gobi Desert), Choijin Lama Temple (precious examples of Buddhist art). Day 2-3 Leave for Amarbayasgalant monastery (28 temples) and valley covered with Turkic-era graves. The Amarbayasgalant Monastery or "monastery of tranquil felicity", once was one of the three largest Buddhist centres in Mongolia and well known as the pure land of dharma, is located near the Selenge river in the Iven Valley, at the foot of Mount Buren Khan in Selenge province. Enjoy the magnificent art and architectural construction and meditate in this amazing surroundings. Overnight in ger camp. Day 4 Ugii Lake Hiking around the great white lake surrounded by extinct volcanoes will be a great experience. Overnight in ger camp Day 5 Karakorum, Erdenezuu monastery Drive to Karakorum, the symbolic ruins of the 13th century capital of the Mongol Empire. Visit Erdene-Zuu, the oldest monastery, with 108 stupas, built in 1586. Overnight in ger camp Day 6 Tuvkhun monastery Drive to Tuvkhun monastery (from 17th century) that sits on the peak of Undur Shireet mountain located in the border of Arkhangai and Uvurkhangai aimags. The monastery is registered by UNESCO as “The most wonderful valuable object of the world heritage” in 1996. Day 7 Ongi temple Early morning drive to Ongi Temple which had once more than a thousand lamas. Overnight in the tourist camp. Day 8-9 Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs), Multsug sand dunes Whole-day excursion to Bayanzag (dinosaur remains, gazelles, fox) and Moltsog Els (spectacular sand dunes), meet local families.Overnight in tent Day 10 Eagle valley, Dungenee at Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National park Drive to the Yolyn Am, or ‘Eagle Valley’ – a wonderfully picturesque place with ice in some months, and surrounded by sheer rocky walls, forming incredible canyons. Hiking about 2 km to the narrow end of the canoyn. Visit Gobi museum. These areas are situated in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park that encompasses the "Three Beauties of the Gobi" peaks and the most eastern points of the Altai Mountains. Overnight in tourist camp. Day 11-12 Demchig temple remains Head to the Demchig temple remains surrounded by rocky mountains. The place is also called as the world energy/power spot. Day 13 Delger monastery Drive to Delger Monastery Day 14 Manzushir monastery Whole day excursion to Manzushir monastery, directly to the south of Ulaanbaatar. Set in the beautiful tree-lined valleys of the Bogdkhan Uul National Park, this monastery, first established in 1733, once boasted 20 temples and over 300 monks. The monastery was a center of learning in Mongolia, including schools of medicine, astrology and philosophy. At Manzushir there's a little museum with a fascinating collection of collages (and some stuffed animals). A little further up the hill, the rebuilt monastery sits next to the ruin of its predecessor, and on the hill behind them are some rock carvings. Day 15 Back to UB More city tours.
